SynthBooth: Fabulously curated synthesizer festival starts tonight

SynthBoothIn the best produced virtual online synthesizer show yet SynthBooth has a fabulous roster of speakers, panels, performers and an Exhibition floor where you can chat to manufacturers.

It all kicks off tonight with performances from The Galaxy Electric and Bana Haffar and then we’re into Saturday with a threaded schedule of Virtual Expo Hall gatherings, panel discussions and more performances.

There’s a huge panel called “Build your Modular Synth Community” with people like Anna Martinova from Modular Moon, Ben Wilson aka DivKid, Trovarsi from SoCal Synth Society, Ben The Glorious Bastard from New York Modular Society and people from modular groups in Seattle, Colorado and the North Coast. It’s going to be an amazing discussion. They’ve got a talk on getting started in Modular with Abraham Ingle from AI Synthesis, Max Ravits from Moog and Walker Farrell from Make Noise. Later on there’s a talk on Performing Live with Modular with Ann Annie, Bana Haffar, Marcus Fischer and Trovasi. And that’s just Saturday.

Sunday covers topics like Synth and Social Change with Emmy Parker of Moog, LaFrae Sci of Willie Mae Sounds and Leah King of Women’s Audio Mission. Modular and Sound Innovation features Alex from WMD, Andrew from Expert Sleepers, Girst from Erica Synths and Olafur from Genki Instruments.

Finishing it all off is a keynote from Suzanne Ciani entitled “Buchla Then and Now”. Can’t be missed!

Surrounding it all is the Virtual Expo Hall where you can book one-to-one meetings with makers of modular and synthesizers and access product demos and join in discussions with other visitors about a whole range of topics. And then sit back and absorb performances from Ann Annie, Trovarsi, AfroRack and Frae-Frae Daughter of Drexciya amongst others.

Time warp

The other thing to be aware of is that this weekend daytime event is running on Pacific Standard Time and while it might well kick off on Friday afternoon in California the event opens in the UK at 12:30 am Saturday morning. But it gets better later in the day when everything opens again at 5 pm Saturday evening running through to 2 am in the morning. Sunday then starts at 5 pm with Suzanne Ciani’s keynote at 11:15 pm. I’m sure we can cope with some later nights.

Time is running out

The window for purchasing tickets is only open until 8pm this evening BST. Yes, that’s right they want your money. $15 will get you into the Virtual Expo Hall and Music Performances. If you want Suzanne’s keynote and the panel discussions then it will cost you $25 plus a booking fee. For the quality of this sort of event and the awesomeness of the people involved I think it will be well worth it.

Your ticket then gives you access to the event website where you can set your own schedule, find out about the panels and people, book meetings with manufacturers and the speakers and the performers – it’s a great opportunity to meet and talk to inspirational people. And I’ll be there so feel free to seek me out whatever that may mean – it’s going to be interesting to see how this all works.
