Ableton Live is probably the most popular DAW out there these days. If you tried the extended 90-day trial version of Ableton Live 10 Suite during lockdown, and have since been considering getting it, now’s your chance. Slice is giving away Ableton Live 10 Lite for free.
Ableton Live 10 Lite
Ableton Live 10 Lite is a stripped down version of the flagship Ableton Live DAW, and a great way to become acquainted with it. The Session view, that defines Live’s workflow, can be found in the Lite version, which is where you compose using tempo-stretched audio and MIDI clips. There’s also the non-destructive processing of audio tracks, including the Warp time-stretching engine. Multi-track recording, plug-ins, MIDI sequencing, automation – Live 10 Lite doesn’t miss any of it. And serious producers may feel compelled to upgrade for just the Live 10 Standard’s and Suite’s comprehensive built-in effects and instruments alone.
With the Lite, you are limited to eight audio and MIDI tracks – a bit quaint where modern productions are concerned. You also get two send and return tracks, the Complex warp mode, and some basic instruments – drum rack, instrument rack, the drum sampler Impulse, and the Simpler mini-sampler that lets you load, process and play samples. There are also nine effects (auto filter, beat repeat, chorus, compressor, EQ, delay, reverb…) as well as a tuner, the practical Utility effect, and an effects rack that lets you save channel strips. The racks are a powerful tool in Ableton, because they let you use effects and instruments in parallel. You will also find eight MIDI effects, such as arpeggiator, scale, and chord. Indeed, despite its limitations, there’s lots to do in to here!
Free with Splice
Live 10 Lite is often thrown in as a freebie with modern interfaces and MIDI controllers. Regardless, securing this version on its own is still worthwhile, not just because it makes for a capable little DAW on its own, it also gives you discounted upgrade options towards Ableton 10 Standard and Suite. So Splice is giving away not just a DAW, but a very nice discount voucher, too!
All you have to do is register with Splice – no subscription necessary! As soon as you click on the Download for free button, you will get a serial number and download link in your profile. To register, all you have to do is enter your email address, a password, and come up with a username. Once you have a license for Live 10 Lite, you can upgrade to the Standard or Suite versions for a lower price. The offer runs until December 31, 2020.
