Developer Brainworx has bought CrispyTuner from fellow audio software ninjas CrispyAudio. The pitch correction effect is now called bx_crispytuner and the sales price has jumped significantly. Surely that’s not all there is to it, right?
bx_crispytuner pitch correction plug-in
Brainworx must have really enjoyed the original CrispyTuner plug-in. Not long ago, you could read about CrispyTuner being acquired and a new product would be emerging from it. A full-blown vocal mixing suite is also in the works, using some of the technology powering the plug-in.
Brainworx is now fulfilling the first part of the announcement with the release of bx_crispytuner. The most obvious difference concerns the price, which is now a hefty USD 399 when not on sale. However, the new plug-in will be sold at a significant discount during the introductory sale. And knowing Plugin Alliance (which sells Brainworx products), there will certainly be another sale where you’ll be able to save again. Additionally, if you bought CrispyTune from CrispyAudio, you will get support and the new version for free – check your emails or look here for more information.
With sales questions out of the way, bx_crispytuner still looks a lot like its “predecessor”, but the color scheme has changed slightly – this can be adjusted. The interface in Simple Mode lets you make easy pitch corrections as well as create vibrato and portamento effects. In Advanced Mode, you can tinker with formants (editing, shifting, preservation) and set the transition time.
Additionally, there are two modes of operation. The Live mode provides pitch correction at near-zero latency, which is very useful in live situations and during recording. Mixing mode, on the other hand, works with “low” latency and is suitable for mixing and rendering. It looks like Brainworx has added a new filter section with high and low-pass filters which can be used both pre and post pitch correction.
Another addition is the bx_crispyscale plug-in which automatically detects the pitch of the audio material and forwards this information to bx_crispytuner in order to correctly change the notes according to the scale. Brainworx says this function can be used to recognize pitches and scales in entire songs or instrument tracks, which should come in handy.
bx_crispytuner – Price and availability
You can get Brainworx bx_crispytuner from Plugin-Alliance by subscribing to any of the MEGA, Mix & Master, Musician, Essential, and Brainworx bundles. If you want to actually own the plug-in, you will pay USD 100 during the introductory sale. The standard price is USD 399, but Plugin Alliance’s regular sales will surely cut some of it. The plug-in runs under macOS 10.11 to 11.0.1 and Windows 7 or later in 64-bit VST, VST3, AAX, and AU formats. A demo version and a PDF user manual can be downloaded from the product page.
