Harrison 32C Vocal Intensity Processor plug-in: quick vocal and dialogue touch-ups

Harrison 32C Vocal Intensity ProcessorHarrison, an analog console manufacturer turned digital, just released a new plug-in: Vocal Intensity Processor. It’s a virtual channel strip that, in a way, resembles a “greatest hits” of features from its console heritage, the AVA series of plug-ins, and the Mixbus32C DAW. The goal is making better vocals and voice recordings. Optimized for live use, the 32C Vocal Intensity Processor is not just suitable for production duty, but for streaming and recording alike.

The plug-in is organized so that you can get quick results without much effort. The Leveler handles the input signal’s dynamic range using a single Intensity knob. It controls how ‘hot’ the signal goes into the compressor, which you can activate via an internally defined threshold. In practice, you just turn up the intensity control and the vocals or speech get more ‘oomph’.

The high and low pass filters are modelled on the 32C console and take care of filtering out unwanted boom and harsh frequencies. With the Bump and Bright buttons, you can also add more punch in the bass range, or a little more air in the highs.

An RTA (Real Time Analyzer) shows you the spectral characteristics of the audio signal in real time. Here, you can switch between pre- and post-filter. The K-12 Output Meter shows the volume level. Last but not least, a limiter ensures that there is no output overload. So you always have a buffer if you have, perhaps, overdone the intensity a little bit.

Overall, the 32C Vocal Intensity Processor looks like a useful tool for basic vocal or dialogue situations. If you are looking for a simple vocal editing tool, feel free to grab the demo version.
