Sennheiser MD-435 Premium Vocal Microphone

When Sennheiser told us they were releasing a new premium microphone series, our Live Zone contributor Bob Malkowski was very excited. “Their MD (Microphone Dynamic) series of microphones has been around for decades and encompasses some true industry classics,” he wrote. “This is a great choice for professional vocalists working with professional engineers.”

The MD-435 dynamic vocal microphone incorporates a widely used and well-respected capsule, the MD-9235. It’s offered as a wired microphone for the first time as the MD-435. The MD-435 has a much wider frequency response than many of the usual vocal mics on offer (40Hz to 20kHz). “Its high-quality aluminium-copper voice coil refines high frequencies with detailed transparency and highlights even the finest nuances,” Sennheiser says of its new mic. “Even subtle vocals can be heard and accentuated effortlessly in the mix.” Sounds impressive!

While 2020 has been a catastrophe for live music, we’re getting increasingly optimistic that 2021 will see stages re-open as the Covid-19 pandemic starts to subside. What better way to get yourself geared up for the your first big gig in 2021 than with a super-premium live mic? After all, isn’t the lead singer’s vocals supposed to be the single most important aspect of your live sound?
