Apple releases Logic Pro X 10.6 – good for macOS 11 and M1, but also your Intel Mac

Logic Pro X 10.6Along with the new M1 Macs and the big new macOS 11 update called Big Sur, Apple is also bringing a compatible version of its flagship DAW with Logic Pro X 10.6. While the software is ready for the new M1 Macs, it will still run on your Intel Mac. And that’s going to be the situation with updates for the foreseeable future. Of course, we are already looking forward to the first performance results with Logic Pro X on an M1 Mac.

Apple Logic Pro X 10.6

Apple updated its DAW surprisingly quickly, wasting no time to make those new Macs production-ready out of the box. Indeed, the Logic Pro X update was released alongside compatibility updates for Final Cut X, Motion, and the Apple office apps – Pages, Numbers and Keynote. We expect the first performance results sometime next week, as this is when the first ARM Macs will be delivered to customers.

As expected, the software updates also contain bug fixes and some new features. For example, Logic Pro X 10.16 is now compatible with all Novation Launchpad controllers. Simply connect the controller and get started. The connection and the configuration are carried out automatically. Another goodie is the ability to remote control Logic Pro X even better and more elegantly with the iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch. The new version of the Logic Remote app features the Step Sequencer to let you build beats and grooves from the touchscreen.

If you only work with Logic and its internal instruments and effects, your new M1 Mac is pretty much ready to go. If that’s not the case, however, our advice is to postpone purchasing an M1 Mac or updating your Intel Mac to macOS Big Sur. It will take time before many plug-ins, apps, and pieces of hardware work properly under Big Sur and with the M1 Macs. We expect a flood of updates from developers and manufacturers to facilitate the transition.

Prices and dates

You can get Apple Logic Pro X 10.6 from the Apple App Store at a price of EUR 229.99. The update for previous owners is, of course, free of charge. The software runs under macOS 10.15 or later. Logic Remote for iOS can be downloaded for free from the Apple App Store. The app requires iOS 13.4 or later and is compatible with the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.
