I was 14 years old, I owned a single CD (Dire Straits “Brothers In Arms”), and this was my first “HiFi Stereo System”. The brand is not existing anymore. This HiFi-System sounded amazing and it was the world for me. And it was really expensive (1500 DM back then, which was really really a LOT of money). It also had a turntable on top (you don’t see that in the pic), and I remember playing Pink Floyd’s “The Wall” and the one CD ^^ I owned on this system every day, on repeat. My brother used to give me tapes of his music regularly, like once a month, and this heavily influenced my taste. Back then — and this has never changed — music was my very own private world. A place where I could be myself and hide from the “threats” of the outside world. I isolated myself in my room all day, just listening to music, day-dreaming and fantasizing about a million things. I drew artworks, I learned to understand the lyrics, I drummed to the music I was listening to, and I was with myself, totally alone, but I never felt lonely. Music was my companion. I spent every single coin on buying new music. That was like one CD every 2 months, sometimes more. I had to be very careful with my selection, because my budget was so limited. But seriously: what a great time. Sometimes I miss it.
